Phantom Blade Zero: Release Date, Trailer, and Gameplay Details

Developed by the Chinese studio S-Game, Phantom Blade Zero is an action game that takes place in a medieval-fantasy universe inspired by Chinese tales and steampunk style. The game does not yet have an official release date but will land on PC and PS5.

Thanks to a very successful first trailer, one of the surprises of the PlayStation Showcase of May 2023 particularly marked the spirits. Developed by Chinese studio S-Game, Phantom Blade Zero is an action game that will be released on PC and PS5. For the moment, no release date has been mentioned.

The adventure takes place in the universe of Phantom World, already known to players of Phantom Blade Executioners, the mobile and PC game developed by S-Game. You play as Soul, an elite assassin in the service of a powerful secret organization known as “The Order”. Unfortunately, we are wrongly accused of the assassination of the boss of the organization and seriously injured in retaliation. Only a special remedy allows us to escape death, but this one lasts only 66 days.

The objective will therefore be to get our hands on the real assassin in the time we have left to live. And to achieve this, it will be necessary to overcome many enemies. As you will have understood, Phantom Blade Zero is mainly action-oriented. And if the first images unveiled were able to think of a Souls-like game, the developers clarified that the game was closer to the Devil May Cry style.

Inspired by Chinese tales but also by kung-fu films, Phantom Blade Zero will offer its share of devastating and accessible combos in its gameplay, all in a steampunk style that seems inevitable these days, but which finds its originality here in a very neat artistic direction. An RPG dimension will also be there to make our hero stronger and stronger as the story progresses.

The adventure will not take place in an open world, but rather in different large open levels that will offer always varied activities for different gaming experiences. Particular care has been taken with the combat animations, which however were not made in motion capture. On the other hand, to guarantee their realism and style, they were all made by Kenji Tanigaki, famous for his work on the kung fu films of the 90s.

Phantom Blade Zero will be released on PS5 and PC at an unknown date.
