Everything You Need to Know About the OS of the Project Q Console from PlayStation >>

July 26,2023

The long-awaited tablet in the form of a Project Q console from PlayStation is shown via a short video that has leaked on the net.

The opportunity to see the Sony machine, probably still in the prototype stage, from new angles and, above all, the operating system it uses. It's only a half surprise to find that PlayStation's Project Q could run on Android, like many tablets on the market.

An accessory rather than a console

Last May, during its PlayStation Showcase, the firm led by Jim Ryan unveiled two new products to come in its catalogue. A pair of wireless headphones compatible with the PlayStation 5 but also the PC, and what looks like a portable console called Project Q. Its name is still very vague. It's a tablet with two halves of a DualSense controller affixed to it on either side.

This tablet will be able to stream, via remote play, the games installed on its PS5 via wifi. This only use has been presented to us for the moment. The object is therefore more reminiscent of an accessory than a real game console capable of competing with Steam Decks and other ROG Allies. It is even still difficult to position it in the same segment as the recent Logitech G Cloud.

Anyway, while waiting for new information from the giant, images of the console/tablet have been shared on Twitter via video and photos.

Android would be a logical choice

We can see in this low-quality video, a person handling the device is still surrounded by a plastic film. If she shows us the machine from several angles, it is especially what is displayed on the screen that catches our attention. Project Q seems to run on Android, with an interface probably still in the prototype stage and not reflecting what it could present at the exit (we imagine more of an interface like on the menu of the PlayStation 5).

What the presence of this OS teaches us is that, through its open source and versatile side, it could allow the tablet to offer more than just streaming via remote play, for a more attractive price than if it were a house OS. The device, with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen, could arrive as early as November.
