The announcement of the game's official release was therefore eagerly awaited, and to everyone's surprise, it was during the State of Play in February 2023, an event organized by Sony, that we were able to discover a new trailer as well as the release date of the game, which is expected for August 31, 2023, on PC, Mac and therefore on PS5. If you are not familiar with the license, Baldur's Gate is one of the adaptations of the famous Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game in video games, and more specifically from the Forgotten Realms universe, one of the settings of D&D's most famous campaign. In Baldur's Gate 3, the 5th and latest edition of the Dungeons and Dragons rules are used, with a few exceptions, since not all spells are available, and the initiative system is adapted.

The game's story takes place about a century after the events of the first two games, and will therefore reveal many references, but also well-known characters from the world of games. The storyline chronicles the adventures of a group in search of a cure after the members are infected by an Illithid tadpole believed to turn them all into Mind Flayers. But the transformation does not take place as planned, and each member of the group begins to develop powers that could prove costly to use...

RPG obliges, it will be necessary to choose at the launch of the game between twelve races and nine different classes to begin the adventure. The fights are turn-based and have the particularity of taking place in environments that leave a lot of room for verticality, with the possibility, thanks to objects or spells, of making certain enemies fall from above.

The various dungeons to be traversed also leave plenty of room for exploration, amply rewarded with chests and finds of all kinds, and for infiltration, with furtive sequences during which it is necessary to exploit the different levels of darkness to avoid being spotted. Throughout the adventure, you will also have to make choices, which will have a real influence on your relations with the different members of the group, and the course of the scenario.

Finally, another novelty of the program, with the possibility of playing on PS5 in local cooperation with two players, in split screen! An option unfortunately less and less present in current games. Online, it will be possible to go through the entire adventure with up to 4 players.
